How to Make this Yummy Praline Pumpkin Spice Smoothie!
Blog Comments & Tips
Delicious fall smoothie recipe!
This Praline Pumpkin Spice Smoothie is so thick and creamy, and uses only a few ingredients! The combination of flavors are all about fall. There are so many versions of pumpkin spice smoothies that I had to come up with my own spin on the fall smoothie recipe.
In an effort to make this a quick and easy recipe, I wanted to make this smoothie using as few ingredients as possible, and without losing any flavor or creaminess. With that in mind, I used traditional fall smoothie ingredients like organic pure pumpkin purée (it’s just as good from a can, but you can certainly use homemade), and pumpkin spice as the base for this recipe.
Then I changed up the flavor profile a bit by using praline maple syrup instead of pure maple syrup. Either one works beautifully, but the praline maple syrup gave it a twist on the traditional recipe.
To increase the protein and lower the fat content, I used plain nonfat Greek yogurt, and replaced milk with water. And, I used a very ripe frozen banana to give it some natural sweetness and a creamier texture. Visit my Tips & Tricks page and watch the video for TIP #5 - How to Store Overly Ripe Bananas. This tip is great if you drink smoothies or protein shakes frequently!
If you don’t mind using a few more ingredients, then I highly recommend taking a look at my recipe variations in the Pimp My Recipe section below.
How do you ensure the best results from our recipe?
My 4 tips to making a creamy Praline Pumpkin Spice Smoothie:
To give this smoothie more creaminess, use a good quality brand of Greek yogurt that is really thick. I prefer using Fage or Chobani.
Freeze your banana, and make sure it’s very ripe before you do. It also adds a creamy texture to this smoothie.
Don’t use pumpkin pie filling, as it has added flavors and sugars, and will change the taste profile for the smoothie. Use pure pumpkin purée instead (plus, it’s a healthier option).
Use a high speed blender to create a lusciously thick smoothie. Both the NutriBullet high speed blender, and the Vitamix high-speed blender work extremely well for this recipe.

Pimp My Recipe:
Make it Healthier: Replace the praline maple syrup with pure maple syrup, or agave nectar.
Add More Protein: Add 1 serving of your favorite vanilla protein powder to the other ingredients, and blend as directed.
Make it Vegan & Dairy-Free: Replace plain nonfat dairy Greek yogurt with plant-based Greek yogurt. I like using Kite Hill plain unsweetened Greek style yogurt, or Kite Hill vanilla unsweetened Greek style yogurt. To sweeten this smoothie, use pure maple syrup, or agave nectar. To add more creaminess, just replace the water with unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
Make it Lux: Replace plain nonfat Greek yogurt with 2% or whole Greek yogurt. Then replace water with 2% or whole dairy milk. To the other ingredients, add 1 to 2 tablespoons pecans, blend, and top with a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice, a drizzle of maple syrup, and a few praline pecans!

Footnote: Remember, in order to add sweetness and creaminess to this smoothie, use an overly ripe banana that has been frozen.
