HEALTHY BANANA MILK LATTE
This iced Healthy Banana Milk Latte is a delicious, lighter alternative to a traditional banana cream latte. Made with wholesome ingredients and no refined sugar, this homemade iced banana coffee is quick and easy, and feels indulgent without the heavy cream and excess calories of a classic banana cream latte.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Make espresso, and set aside to cool.
- Remove and discard stems and pits from Medjool dates, and tear into pieces. Add to a high-speed blender cup (see Note #3), and pour boiling water over dates (enough to cover them). Soak for 5 minutes, then drain water, leaving softened dates in the blender cup.
- Add banana to the blender cup, along with cinnamon, cardamom, sea salt, and milk of choice. Blend until smooth and frothy.
- Fill a tall glass (18 ounces or 16 ounces) ⅔ full with ice. Pour cooled espresso in glass, then banana milk directly over ice. Serve immediately with a straw, stir, and enjoy!
Notes
- It’s important to use a very ripe banana (a peel with brown spots) for this recipe, as some of the sweetness and creaminess in this drink is derived from the natural sugars in a ripe banana. However, it should not but not be all brown or black, as that level of ripeness is better for banana bread – not lattes.
- For non-dairy milk alternatives, I find unsweetened vanilla almond milk or oat milk have the most neutral flavor for this latte recipe. Try my Almond Milk recipe or my easy Homemade Oat Milk recipe! For the dairy option, try 2% milk or whole milk for the best texture.
- Use a high speed blender to create a lusciously thick smoothie. Both the NutriBullet high speed blender, and the Vitamix high-speed blender work extremely well for this recipe. If you don’t have a high speed blender, you can use a regular blender, but it may take longer to blend. Also, it may not make the smoothie as creamy in texture as a high speed blender.
- Makes one 11 ounce serving (16 ounces with ice).

How to Make a Healthier Banana Milk Latte without Compromising Flavor!
Blog Comments & Tips
Iced Healthy Banana Milk Latte: A Lighter Take on Banana Cream Coffee
If you love the rich, creamy flavor of a banana cream latte, you’re going to want to try this lighter, wholesome version. My iced Healthy Banana Milk Latte has all the cozy flavors you crave from a banana cream coffee, but it’s made with simple, nourishing ingredients and no refined sugar.
Instead of heavy cream, flavored syrups, or sweetened sauces, this banana latte gets its natural sweetness and creamy texture from ripe banana and Medjool dates. The result is a smooth, naturally sweet iced coffee that tastes indulgent while being made from ingredients you can feel good about.
What Makes This Banana Latte Healthier?
The magic starts with a ripe banana. Not only does it provide natural sweetness and a creamy texture, but bananas also add potassium and other essential nutrients. Medjool dates provide another layer of natural sweetness along with fiber and a delicious caramel-like flavor.
I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but you can easily substitute your favorite dairy (2% milk or whole milk) or plant-based milk (like my Almond Milk recipe or my easy Homemade Oat Milk recipe). The milk creates the creamy foundation for the latte without relying on heavy cream.
Cinnamon and cardamom add the flavor of warm and aromatic spices that make this banana coffee taste a little more special. A small pinch of sea salt may seem like an insignificant ingredient, but it helps balance the sweetness and bring all the flavors together.
Regular or Decaf Espresso — It’s Your Choice
This recipe works beautifully with either regular or decaf espresso, so you can enjoy it whenever you like. The combination of cool, creamy banana milk and bold espresso makes a refreshing coffeehouse-style drink right at home.
Whether you're looking for a healthy banana latte, an easy iced banana coffee, or simply a delicious way to use an extra-ripe banana, this recipe is worth adding to your coffee rotation. It’s creamy, naturally sweet, lightly spiced, and wonderfully satisfying — without the heaviness of a traditional banana cream latte.
How do you ensure the best results from this recipe?
My 4 tips to making the best Healthy Banana Milk Latte:
Use organic ingredients: banana and Medjool dates.
I prefer the neutral flavor of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but you can certainly swap it out for richer and more caloric versions like oat milk or dairy milk (2% or whole milk is the best dairy option for this recipe).
Although it’s tempting to skip soaking the dates, it’s a must to make them blend smoothly into the banana milk. Otherwise, you’ll get specks of dates throughout your drink.
For the creamiest texture, use a high-speed blender (like the NutriBullet high speed blender or the Vitamix high-speed blender) to blend all the ingredients together. It could take anywhere from 30 - 60 seconds to blend.

Footnote: Remember to use a very ripe banana for extra sweetness without having to add refined sugar.
