BLOOD ORANGE MIMOSAS
Ingredients
Instructions
- Squeeze and strain blood orange juice into a measuring cup. Pour 1 ounce (i.e., 2 tablespoons) strained blood orange juice into a chilled champagne flute. Then add 1 teaspoon Grand Marnier Liqueur.
- Top with 4 ounces Champagne (or sparkling wine, or Prosecco), but be sure to pour each glass in stages so those precious bubbles don’t overflow. Enjoy!
Notes
- We recommend using “brut” champagne so it’s not overly sweet. Or you can use your favorite sparkling wine, or Prosecco. Depending on which type of bubbles you use, it may increase the sweetness.
- Chill champagne flutes in the fridge for at least 15 minutes before you serve.

Step by Step Instructions
STEP 1a
Before you begin, chill your champagne glass to make sure your cocktail stays cold. To juice the blood orange, start by slicing one orange in half, then squeeze the juice (we love this citrus juicer). Place a fine mesh strainer on a measuring cup and strain the juice by pouring it through the strainer. With a spoon, press on the pulp to squeeze out any remaining juice into the cup.
Make Ahead Preparation: Juice about 3-4 blood oranges (depending on size) and strain the pulp into a measuring cup or bowl, as instructed in this step.
Notes:

These Blood Orange Mimosas are not just for brunch!
Champagne cocktails are the best, and mimosas are one of the easiest to make and drink! But there is a big difference between a mimosa made with fresh squeezed juice and one with store bought juice. Although we don’t claim to be mixologists, we definitely know the difference between a good and a bad mimosa.
If you have been reading some of our blogs, you have probably seen a recurring theme. Whether it’s food or cocktail recipes we are talking about, the good ones all start with high quality ingredients. This phrase has developed into a Pimp My Recipe Team mantra!
Speaking of quality, the champagne is important in this recipe. My personal favorite is Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne , and it’s been a staple in my home for many years (Total Wine & More always seem to have it in stock). This wonderful, medium bodied dry champagne is nicely balanced and has bright notes of ripe fruit, ginger, pear, and cream.
For this cocktail recipe, fresh is best! Make this cocktail when blood oranges are in season. Although you could use store bought juice, we prefer freshly squeezed blood oranges for this beautiful cocktail. The fresh juice makes such a difference in the flavor of this drink. Adding a touch of Grand Marnier Liqueur steps it up a notch above the basic mimosa recipe.

Pimp Our Recipe:
Make it Sweeter and More Juicy: Instead of 1 ounce of juice, replace it with 2 ounces of blood orange juice (about half a champagne flute). Then in place of 1 teaspoon of Grand Marnier Liqueur per glass, increase to 2 teaspoons.
Make it Ahead for Entertaining: Just follow our Make Ahead Preparation instructions in the Step by Step section above and increase the quantities by the number of guests. The formula is juice ahead of time, add Grand Marnier Liqueur , then cover and refrigerate. When guests arrive, distribute juice mixture among champagne flutes and top off with champagne.
