LOVELY LAVENDER MATCHA LATTE

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place a small strainer over a matcha bowl (I used this complete matcha whisk set). Add matcha, and sift. Pour about ½ to 1 ounce of hot water over the matcha, and stir/whisk to create a thin paste (see Note #1). Pour remaining hot water over the paste, and briskly whisk in a “W” (or “Z”) motion for about 1 minute, or until frothy with light green foam. Swirl and pour into a large mug (16 ounce).
  2. Heat milk (over the stove or in the microwave) Pour milk of choice into a tall borosilicate glass measuring cup (2 cup), and heat in the microwave until hot, but not boiling (see Note #2).
  3. To the cup/pitcher, add vanilla syrup, and lavender simple syrup. Using an electric milk frother, whisk on low speed to create a vortex, until very frothy, and almost doubled in volume. Swirl and tap the cup/pitcher a few times to incorporate froth into the milk. Then pour over the prepared matcha, serve immediately, and enjoy!

How to Make a Barista-Style Lavender Matcha Latte at Home!

Blog Comments & Tips

The numerous benefits of matcha!

This Lovely Lavender Matcha Latte is the kind of drink that invites you to slow down, take a deep breath, and savor the moment. Warm, comforting, and delicately floral, it’s a cozy twist on a classic matcha latte that feels both calming and indulgent without being fussy or cloyingly sweet.

This calming and cozy drink is easily customizable and can be made dairy free, full dairy, or even iced! Just take a look at the Pimp My Recipe section below for recipe variations.

Aside from its perfect balance of flavors, this Lovely Lavender Matcha Latte has some nutritional advantages over other caffeinated drinks like coffee. Matcha is more than just a vibrant green tea, it’s packed with nutrients and wellness benefits that make it a favorite for both flavor and focus. Here are some of the key health benefits of matcha:

  • Rich in Antioxidants: Matcha is especially high in catechins, a type of antioxidant that helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Because you consume the whole tea leaf (rather than just an infusion), matcha delivers a higher concentration of antioxidants than regular green tea.

  • Calm, Sustained Energy: Unlike coffee, matcha provides a gentle and steady energy boost. It contains caffeine paired with L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes calm focus. This combination helps improve alertness without the jitters or crash.

  • Supports Focus & Mental Clarity: L-theanine in matcha encourages a relaxed but alert state, making it ideal for concentration, creativity, and mindfulness. Many people find it helps them feel focused yet calm at the same time.

  • Supports Heart Health: Along with the part of a balanced diet and lifestyle, the antioxidants in matcha may help support healthy cholesterol levels and overall cardiovascular health.

  • Metabolism Support: Matcha has been shown to support metabolic function and fat oxidation, which is why it’s often included in wellness routines focused on energy and balance.

  • Gentle & Nourishing: Matcha is less acidic than coffee and can be easier on digestion for many. It also contains small amounts of vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc, and magnesium.

Overall, matcha is a nourishing, feel-good drink that combines energy, calm, and wellness in every sip. Perfect for daily rituals or cozy moments alike.

How do you ensure the best results from this recipe?

My 5 tips to making this Lovely Lavender Matcha Latte:

  1. Use a high quality organic matcha powder. For this drink recipe, skip the everyday matcha and use a ceremonial grade matcha or barista matcha instead. I like using Chaism organic matcha powder (premium ceremonial grade). It’s also reasonably priced for a good quality matcha.

  2. I certainly am no expert on matcha whisking techniques, but if you are new to making matcha I encourage you to watch the recipe video. It shows the basic technique of matcha whisking. And…if you don’t want to be fussy and you want to make it the quick and easy way, just use the electric milk frother to whisk the matcha and milk (separately of course).

  3. Whether you use your microwave or stovetop, don’t boil or overheat your milk of choice. It will make the matcha bitter, and will be more difficult to froth. In my microwave, it takes about 1 minute and 30 seconds to heat the milk.

  4. Use the right shape & size pitcher for frothing. It should be tall and narrow in order for it to froth properly. I like using this tall borosilicate glass measuring cup (2 cup), that way I can heat and froth in the same pitcher (fewer dishes!).

  5. My Easy Lavender Simple Syrup can be made in minutes, as well as made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for when you need it. However, you can certainly use store bought lavender syrup instead. That said, you may have to play with the measurements on the lavender and vanilla syrups, as the strength of store bought syrups may be different.

It’s time to customize and Pimp My Recipe.

Pimp My Recipe:

  • Make it with Dairy: Just replace the dairy free almond milk with whole, 2%, or non-fat dairy milk. Depending on the milk you use, you may need to play around with the amount of syrups. Just make sure to use equal amounts, so that the lavender does not overpower the matcha.

  • Make it Dairy Free: Use unsweetened vanilla almond milk, oat milk, or nut milk of choice. Just remember you want the milk to be fairly neutral. Although unsweetened vanilla almond milk is my favorite, oat milk works exceptionally well in this lavender matcha latte recipe.

  • Make it Less Sweet: Although the amounts listed in this recipe for both syrups seem like a lot, everything is balanced properly. It is sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. If you prefer drinks that are not sweet at all, then play around with the amounts by reducing the syrups by half (½ Tbs. vanilla syrup and ½ Tbs. Easy Lavender Simple Syrup). Then work your way up or down as desired.

  • Make it Iced: Simply add ice to a tall glass. Make the matcha as directed. Pour matcha over ice, then add syrups, and cold milk, and stir well to combine. Serve with a straw.

Footnote: Remember…Don’t boil or overheat your milk of choice. It will make the matcha bitter, and will be more difficult to froth.
